He was a former president of the Huron County Farm Bureau and served on the Board of Michigan Farm Bureau. He was also past president of the Michigan Centennial Farm Association. Bruce's passion for the land and family farming was his daily motivation.

On March 15, 1958, he was united in marriage with Virginia E. Blakeslee at the Chesaning Methodist Church. Together they enjoyed life and laughter as their home had always been a place for family and friends to gather, including more than 90 international students from throughout the world.

He was a member of the Hubbard Winsor Lodge No. 420, the Pigeon Lions Club, the Caseville Eagles F.O.E. 3690, the Caseville Historical Society, and a former member of the Pigeon Rotary Club. He was a lifelong Conservative and a lifelong member of Hayes United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Phyllis and Clarence Gettel and Charles and Doris Leipprandt; and grandson Nicholas.

The funeral service will be 12:00 noon Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Hayes United Methodist Church, with Pastor Matthew Chapman officiating. Cremation will follow.
