Burdette Myers
Burdette C. Myers, 82, of Sebewaing, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 27, 2014, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon, MI. He was born in Harrisburg, PA, on March 23, 1932 to the late Lt. Col. Walter P. and Ora (Carpenter) Myers. He was a 1950 graduate from Sebewaing High School and married his high school sweetheart, Arlene M. Beitz, on February 23, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sebewaing. They had a wonderful marriage of 62 years.
Burdette was employed at Industrial Brownhoist, Bay City, for 19 years before the plant closed. He worked other jobs until his retirement in 1997. He loved to duck hunt in his early years with his boys and watch football and the Tigers often listening and watching several games at once. He was an avid reader of World War II books and he loved to play chess with his buddies at the Library or with his nephew, Steven. Burdette was a kind, caring, Christian man who could strike up a conversation to make a friend with anyone.
Surviving besides his wife, Arlene, are six children and their spouses: Brenda (Mike) Wible of Downers Grove, IL, Philip (Jean) Myers of Caseville, Neal (Deb) Myers, Cindy (Tim) Smith, Marlene (Daryl) Faber, all of Sebewaing, and Barb (Rob) DeSimpelare of Frankenmuth. Eight grandchildren: Kelly (Nick) Linzner, Michael Myers, Ryan (Nina) Wible, Jason (Alicia) Smith, Jodi Smith, Zachary and Kensi DeSimpelare, and Chelsea Faber. Four great-grandchildren: Blayne and Brody Linzner, and Ethan and Rylee Dexter. One brother, Walter P. (Marilyn) Myers Jr. of Saginaw, sister-in-law, Eleanor Beitz of Greenville, SC. and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by one brother-in-law, Ronald A. Beitz.
Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, Oct. 29th, from 2 - 8 pm at the Juengel-Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing and at 10:00 am until the time of the Christian funeral at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, Oct. 30th, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Michael Boyer officiating. Memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Radio Mission Fund or the Sebewaing Township Library.
