Calvin Wayne Lockhart

Calvin Wayne Lockhart, age 76, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025 after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. Calvin was born December 7, 1948 in Vassar, the son of the late Walter Charles & Carol Jene (Hurd) Lockhart. He began his career at G. Heileman Brewing Company in Frankenmuth, where he worked diligently from 1969 until the brewery’s closure in 1990. In 1970, Calvin answered the call to serve his country and was drafted into the U.S. Army on August 25. Throughout his life, Calvin had a love for the outdoors. In his younger years, he enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing. Later, he found joy in sharing his wisdom and skills with his grandchildren, whether teaching them the art of frugality or guiding them as they tried something new. He was affectionately known as “Bumpa” to all who knew him, a name that perfectly captured his fun-loving spirit and deep devotion to his family. Calvin kept busy with projects around the house, always tinkering or fixing something. His favorite place to be was in his own backyard, relaxing, enjoying nature, or giving family and friends rides on his golf cart.

Left to cherish Calvin’s memory are his children, Calvin (Christin) Lockhart II of Stuttgart, Germany, Bobbi Sue Lockhart of Middlesboro, Kentucky, and MaryJo Shelson of Vassar; grandchildren, Nicholas, Camryn, Calvin (Alexandra) III, Austin, Joshua, Annie, Aidan, Garrett, LeCassidy (Jasper), Shawna (Preston), Holly (Ray), Madison (Matthew), Keaton, Noah, Cally, Benjamin, and Connor; eleven great-grandchildren; and brother, Jeffrey Lockhart. He was also well-loved by the Grammentz family and had several honorary children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Beth Ann Lockhart.

In keeping with Calvin’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
