Calvin W. Rice

Calvin W. Rice of Caro, age 61, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Cal was born February 23, 1960 in Cass City, the son of the late William Richard & Lila Alverna (Moore) Rice. He was raised in the same home where he resided still, and attended Caro High School. Cal spent over thirty years as an over the road truck driver for several companies and more recently, hauled travel trailers until his retirement in 2011. He loved motorcycles and, of the many he owned throughout his life, he was most proud of his 2003 100th anniversary Harley-Davidson. Cal also enjoyed mud bogging, especially in the Jeep he lovingly referred to as his "Mud Puppy." Time at home was spent watching NASCAR, old Westerns, M*A*S*H, or the news. He also frequented the local coffee shops where he could keep up with the local goings-on. More than anything, Cal loved his children and watching his grandchildren grow up. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Betty Rice of Caro; his best friend and rescue dog, Buzz; three children, William "Billy" Sheldon Rice (Crystal Huizar) of Vassar, Kristina Sue Rice (Adam Mieske) of Bay City, Kevin William (Jodie) Rice of Caro; eight grandchildren, Chase Rice, Kaylee Peters, Izaiah and Christian Ellesin, River Rice, Amanda, Brandon, and Rebecca; three great-grandchildren, Eli, Sabastian, and Payton; one sister, Lillian Adams of Cass City; and many nephews and nieces that included Roxanne, Tricia, and Laura. In addition to his parents, Cal was preceded in death by two siblings, Richard William Rice and Ruby Kathleen Clark. Cal's family will be present to celebrate his life from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow the gathering. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Cass River Pet Friendz.
