Carl L. Aldrich

Carl L. Aldrich of Fairgrove, age 99, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his home, following a lingering illness. Carl was born November 19, 1916 in Fairgrove, the son of the late James J. and Grace (Bonelle) Aldrich. He bravely served his country during World War II from 1941 to 1945 in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant. Carl was united in marriage with the former Dorothy Orlowski on April 2, 1948, and she survives him. He was employed at the Auto-Lite in Bay City for ten years and the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad in Saginaw for thirty years before his retirement in 1980. Carl enjoyed many years of golf and many nights out "cutting the rug" as he and Dorothy were locally known for many years as ballroom dancing instructors. Left to cherish Carl's memory are his devoted wife of sixty-seven years, Dorothy Aldrich; his loving son and his wife, Gregory & Susan Aldrich of Terre Haute, Indiana; dear granddaughter and her husband, Leah & Khanrad Wilson of Terre Haute, Indiana; two great-grandchildren, Kellan and Liam Wilson; one brother and his wife, Francis & Margaret Aldrich; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Wilson, Ellsworth and Howard Aldrich; and one sister, Irene Smith. Carl's ability to touch the lives of others will continue even in death as his body has been donated to the University of Michigan for research purposes. Following cremation, a private family committal will be held at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the donor's favorite charity.
