Carl Frederick Engelhardt
, age 100, of Sebewaing, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday November 6, 2019.
Born on the family farm south of Kilmanagh on June 25, 1919, he was the oldest child of Carl and Dora Engelhardt. He was baptized on November 9, 1919, attended St. John's Lutheran School in Kilmanagh, and was confirmed on April 9, 1933. On May 16, 1942 he was united in marriage to Lorene C. Hafner in Sebewaing. Together they had four children.
Carl was a member of the local Farm Bureau group, AAL (Aid Association for Lutherans), and an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh where he served on the Board of Trustees for many years and was known to be the guy who was in the parking lot directing traffic at the church's annual ham dinner.
Besides farming, Carl also worked for the Michigan Sugar Company and for Acme Roll Forming in Sebewaing. Carl was always willing to lend a helping hand and was known for welding and fixing broken farm equipment and for building trailers or equipment for people when something could no longer be fixed or somebody needed something special.
Carl always had a smile on his face and liked to joke around with people. He was a very hard worker and was a great role model for his children.
Carl is survived by his children Kenneth (Connie) of Owendale; Jeanette (Michael) Bach of Sebewaing; David (Patricia) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Joy (Gilbert) Sprague of Owendale; eight grandchildren - Kenneth Engelhardt, Kurt Engelhardt, Kathy (Rob) Curdie, Michelle (Brad) Burk, Kevin (Brenda) Fritz, Elizabeth Engelhardt, Heather Sprague and Jeremy Sprague; ten great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorene; seven brothers - Walter, Elmer, Raymond, Willard, Ray, Roy, and Gerald Engelhardt; and two sisters Arlene and Mildred.
Visitation will be Friday, November 8, 2019 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing, from 3-8 PM.
The funeral service will be Saturday, November 9, 2019 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh. Visitation will begin at 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM. Rev. Thom Garrison will be officiating with burial at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Sebewaing immediately following the service.
Memorial donations may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church and earmarked Student Fund or the American Heart Association.
