Carl O. Holmes of Caro, age 86, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at his home. Carl was born October 23, 1933 in Falmouth, Kentucky, the son of the late Ewing and Lucille (Engles) Holmes. At the age of 8, Carl and his family moved to Fairgrove, Almer Township, and later on to Caro. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Carl was united in marriage with the former Laura Tetil on March 7, 1959 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro, and she preceded him in death on November 25, 2004. He married Maxine "Mickey" Daly on January 19, 2007 in Frankenmuth, and she survives. Carl was president and CEO of State Savings Bank in Caro for many years and Caro village president. He was a member of the Human Development Commission, an officer, member, and a driving force in the building of the new St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro, member of the Caro Exchange Club, the Neal Sisters Foundation, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and Caro American Legion Post #7 for more than sixty years. Carl enjoyed square dancing and bowling, as attested to by his thirty-five year ABC tournament participation, along with belonging to the Bowling Hall of Fame - Frankenmuth Association. Survivors include his wife, Maxine "Mickey" Holmes; one son, Brian Holmes and his wife, Jul, of Caro; two grandsons, Maxwell and Mitchell Holmes, of Caro; Laura's siblings and their spouses; and his many cousins. In addition to his parents and Laura, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Bonnie Holmes. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating. Burial will follow at the Almer Township Cemetery in Caro with military honors afforded by the U.S. Navy and Caro American Legion Post #7. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro.
