Carl E. Johnson

Carl E Johnson of Caro, age 85, died Friday, November 19, 2021. A strong, honorable man with a good moral compass and sound advice left quietly from our lives after his battle with cancer. He stayed on as long as he could to watch over his family. Rest easy, your family will keep your wisdom and memories close. Carl was born April 24, 1936 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to John and Mary (Bland) Johnson. He married the love of his life, Audrey E (Mallast) Johnson on September 24, 1955 in Carmel, California. Carl served as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his Honorable Discharge, he began his life-long career at Detroit Edison. He started out handing tools and materials to the lineman, then as an apprentice lineman, and advanced to lineman. Quickly mastering those crafts, Carl transferred into the office as a Division Instructor, the youngest lineman to do so. In that role he taught new lineman, later becoming a supervisor in Corporate Safety, and finally retiring after thirty-nine years of service. Carl enjoyed raising his family in Caro and RV'ing every chance he could. He became a snowbird, traveling to Florida in his motor home to avoid the snow and cold. He is survived by his children, Lyndon C. Johnson of Howell, Darcy J. Stein of Lapeer, and Michael E. (Mary Charmley) Johnson of Oviedo, Florida; grandchildren, Andrew (Lori Emmons) Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Rebecca (Jonathan) Choquette, Jessica Stein, and Thomas Johnson; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Johnson, Mackenzie Johnson, Hayden Johnson, and Jacobson Choquette; and his special friend, Joanne Smith of Caro. Memorial service will be held at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Military honors afforded by the U.S. Navy and Caro American Legion Post #7 will follow the service. Visitation will start at 11:00 a.m. followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. Carl will be interred next to his wife at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a future date.
