Carl Henry Wagner

Carl Henry Wagner of Caro, age 81, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023 with his loving family by his side. He was born October 10, 1941 in Caro, the son of the late Henry and Adeline (Kaminskas) Wagner and lived in the house he grew up in for the entirety of his life. Carl was employed at Michigan Sugar Company and worked as a cash crop farmer. He retired in 1991 as a general supervisor from the Caro Regional Center following thirty-one years of employment. As captain of the Bay Bandit, he enjoyed boating and being a “catcherman”, believing you can go fishing, but it was more important to catch the fish. In later years, his children repaid him with first time experiences as he had done for them growing up, such as hot air balloon rides and being a grandpa. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed deer and duck hunting and mowing his lawn. Carl was a jack of all trades, being mechanically and creatively minded, mastering woodworking of all kinds, plumbing, and electrical.

Left to cherish his memory are three children and their spouses, Carla & Paul King, Henry & Amy Wagner, and Carleen & Mike Vernier, all of Caro; six grandchildren and spouses, Kayleen & Michael Hahn, Steven & Michelle King, Ashley & Chad Mothersell, Ben & Karen Wagner, Jake Wagner, Christian Giddings; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters and spouses, Shirley & Russell Barriger, Fran & Wayne Fader; many nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Sharon Giddings. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with Carl’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Ellington Church of the Nazarene, 2545 Lazelle Road, Caro, MI 48723 (corner of Lazelle and East Caro Road). The family will be present to receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.
