Carlos J. "Charlie" Gomez

Carlos J. "Charlie" Gomez of Caro, age 77, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper in Saginaw. Charlie was born January 15, 1943 in Elkton, the son of the late Manuel & Elena (Garcia) Gomez. He was raised in Huron County and attended Bad Axe High School. In 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1962. Shortly after his return, he was united in marriage with the former Bonnie Cove on February 8, 1963 in Bad Axe, and she survives. In 1966, Charlie began a thirty-four year career with General Motors at the Pontiac Truck and Bus Plant, retiring in 1999. He was a faithful member of Living Waters Chapel in Caro where he enjoyed playing his guitar for services. Charlie also liked target shooting, weightlifting, and boxing, a hobby he picked up during his time in the service. Family was Charlie's pride and joy and he adored time spent with all of his children and grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Bonnie Gomez of Caro; six children and their spouses, Anthony Gomez and his significant other, Emily, of Waterford Township, Mary & Ramon Zamora of Caro, Linda & Barry Lapp of Caro, Carlos & Allison Gomez of Caro, Ricardo & Shanna Gomez of Akron, Carrie & Rick Compau of Holly; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; six siblings and their spouses, Irene Rodriguez of Brighton, Victor & Mary Gomez of Caro, Diana & Edward Cruz of Dallas, Texas, Sylvia & Donald Brigham of Grayling, Ida Miller of Traverse City, Louis Gomez of Caro; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by two grandsons, Ricardo and Adam Gomez. Funeral services and military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Living Waters Chapel in Caro with Revs. Paul Holdren and Ida Miller officiating.
