Carol Lockhart

Carol Jene Lockhart, age 85, of Vassar passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at her home. She was born on July 30, 1924 in Midland to the late Adelburt and Inez (Smith) Hurd. Carol Jene was raised in the Mayville area by the Steeles following a fatal traffic accident which took both her parents lives. The former Carol Hurd married Walter Lockhart on March 2, 1944 in Mayville. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1999. Carol was a loving mother, wife, and homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro. She is survived by her children, Calvin Lockhart of Vassar, Jeff Lockhart of Vassar, Eileen (Ed) Schrader of Vassar and Jean (Don) Sines of Vassar; nine grandchildren, Calvin (Christin) Lockhart II of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Bobbi Sue (Paul) Kiser of Maynardville Tennessee, Mary Jo (Matt) Shelson of Vassar, Jeremy (Sonya) Schrader of East Tawas, Amanda (Shawn) Clapper of Bay City, James (Manuala) Sines of New Jersey, Michael (Deanna) Sines of Deford, Phillip (Kathy) Kozar of Caro and James (Karen) Varney of Caro; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Alan Lockhart, and her siblings. In 1974 Carol entered into an agreement with the University of Michigan Medical School to have her body donated as an anatomical gift. Her wish has been honored and a memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation at the Collon Funeral Home.
