Carolyn Engelhard Smith

Carolyn Engelhard Smith , age 85, was born on March 2, 1940 to Henry and Edna Engelhard in Bay City, Michigan. She grew up in Bay Port, then moved to the Lansing area as an adult.  She returned to the Thumb as often as possible.

In 1976 she married Louis Smith.  They had many happy years together collecting old cars; and life became a treasure hunt searching for unique and unusual finds.  After his death, she became reacquainted with an old friend.  The two of them traveled and had grand and wonderful adventures together.

Carolyn was very active with the Bay Port chamber of commerce and the fish festival her parents started.  This is the first year since the start of them that she missed the festival.

During her career, she first worked as a secretary for Engelhard Construction in Bay City, then for the Michigan State Legislature. Later she worked for General Motors and eventually retired from there.

She died on her mother's birthday, November 17, 2025 in Lansing. Burial will be at Northlawn Cemetery in Sebewaing on Thursday November 20, 2025, at 9am next to her husband and parents. Pastor Michael Boyer will say a few prayers.

She is survived by her partner in crime, Dick Tuttle, sisters: Mary Barnett and Kathleen Engelhard; a niece; 2 nephews; great nieces and nephews; and a great great niece.

Memorial donations may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 800 E. Bay St., Sebewaing, MI 48759.
