Catherine Ruby "Katie" Markert

Catherine "Katie" Ruby Markert of Caro, age 84, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper in Saginaw. Katie was born July 5, 1936 in Freeland, the daughter of the late George & Ruth (Pinnow) Russell. She was united in marriage with Henry "Hank" Markert on June 1, 1957 at Monitor Lutheran Church in Auburn, and the couple was inseparable for sixty-one years until Hank's passing on April 10, 2019. Katie worked for a brief time at McKenze Jewelers in Elkton but was most proud of time spent caring for her home. She was also a gifted artist and used those talents to create Kitty-Hawk Crafts. She will be remembered for her beautiful angels and Santa's sold at craft shows along with bird houses. Katie also enjoyed making floral arrangements, diamond art and coloring. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro where she sang in the choir for many years and participated with the St. Paul Quilters. Katie also loved traveling with Hank and listening to Polkas. Left to cherish her memory are one sister, Violet McCreadie of Midland; nephews, Charles (Joann) Schallier, Jeff (Diane) McCreadie, Greg (Dawn) McCreadie; great-nephews, Elijah McCreadie and John McCreadie; and many dear friends. In keeping with Katie's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating.
