Catherine J. Schubel

Catherine J. Schubel of Caro, age 87, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at United Hospice Residence in Marlette. She was born June 7, 1928 in Mayville, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Eva (Herald) Erb. Cathy graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1946, and attended Western Michigan University. She was united in marriage with Harry E. Schubel on December 22, 1951 in Mayville, and he preceded her in death on February 1, 2003. Cathy was employed by Michigan Sugar and Detroit Edison as a secretary before leaving to raise her two children. She enjoyed antiquing, reading, following politics, visiting friends and her Tuesday afternoon "Lunch Bunch." Cathy is survived by two sons, Mark Schubel and his wife, Cynthia Stewart, of Caro, Neal Schubel of Saginaw; grandchildren, Maxwell Schubel of Saginaw, Emily Phelps and her husband, Travis, of Arizona, Jake Stewart and his wife, Stacy, of Midland; great-grandchildren, Morgan Stewart, Avery Stewart and Sam Phelps; one sister, Lois Parnik of Detroit; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ann Manning; and one brother, Herald Erb. In keeping with Cathy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at Almer Township Cemetery at a later date.
