Cecile Hartman Howk

Cecile Hartman Howk of Flint, formerly of Caro, age 96, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Landings of Genesee Valley in Flint. Cecile was born January 27, 1921 in Owendale, the daughter of the late Andrew and Flossie (Stock) McAlpine. On June 20, 1940, Cecile was united in marriage with Ralph Hartman in Caro, he preceded her in death on March 19, 1976. Cecile and Ralph were the owners and operators of the Pine Room in Caro. She was a natural for that business in that she was a very social person and enjoyed her customers, friends, and family in both Caro and later at her winter home in Bradenton, Florida. In 1977 Cecile married Harold Howk and he also preceded her in death on January 25, 1997. She was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church, formerly a Sunday School Teacher, senior Methodist Youth Fellowship counselor, Sunday School Superintendent, President of Mary Martha Women's Group as well as the Mr. and Mrs. Club of the Methodist Church, and a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. Cecile is survived by her son, Donald Hartman and Dawn Buhler of Clio; a daughter, Sherrie & Tom Graves of Ormond Beach, Florida. Seven grandchildren, Donald Hartman Jr. and Michelle Hartman, Heather & Mike Swantek, Holly & Brian Hager Jeff & Diane Graves of Pennsylvania, Greg & Shellie Graves of Pennsylvania, Cheri & Jeremy Piercefield of Lima, Ohio, Loree Crisp of Lima, Ohio; seventeen great-grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew, Lauren, Meagan, Darrien, Aria, Amanda, Austin, Adrian, Aaron, Audrey, Ashley, Erica, Autumn, Tyler & Maryn, Nicholas and Alexis. Great-great-grandchildren Charlotte and Cooper. Along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, Cecile was preceded in death by sons James, Raymond and John Hartman and daughter, Linda Hartman and daughter-in-law, Carol (Dicks) Hartman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Tony Tomasino, officiating. Burial will follow at the Elkland Township Cemetery in Cass City. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro United Methodist Church or Caro Community Hospital.
