Charles W. Baxter of Caro, age 72, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Ann Arbor, following a brief illness. Charlie was born January 10, 1942 at home in Mayville, the son of the late Steve & Faith (Taylor) Baxter and graduated from Mayville High School with the class of 1960. Following graduation, he enlisted with the US Air Force, serving in Japan for two years and stateside in Arizona for the next two years. Upon his return from the Air Force, Charlie worked with his family as a self-employed mason and volunteered as an EMT and firefighter in Mayville. He was also employed by Grede Foundry in Vassar and the plastic extrusion firm, The Truesdell Company in Auburn Hills. In 1987, Charlie took a plant manager position with Truesdell in El Paso, Texas before joining the plastics company, Global Enterprises. He retired to Michigan in 2003 and was united in marriage with the former Susan K. Malloy on August 14, 2004 in Frankenmuth. Charlie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro and the Caro Lions Club where he volunteered at many events including the fair. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking trips to the casino. Charlie is survived by his wife, Susan K. Baxter of Caro; three children, Kevin Baxter of Lapeer, Kim Baxter of El Paso, Texas, Kirk Baxter of Lapeer; five grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, Kearsten and Alex Baxter, and Trevor Giddings; one great-grandson, Reagan Stonebridge; four step-children and their spouses, Phillip Malloy of Farmington Hills, Shannon & Lee Stalnaker of Jacksonsville, Florida, Tyler Malloy of Mayville, Chad & Heather Malloy of Caro; eight step-grandchildren, Meghan Malloy, Brandon and Alex Cortez, Bobbi and Triston Malloy, Zeke Coyer, Jordan and Chloe Malloy; one brother, Steve & Joyce Baxter of Denver, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro with Rev. Dennis Kucharczyk officiating. Cremation will follow the service. The family will be present to receive friends on Sunday at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro Lions Club or the American Cancer Society.
