Charles Aaron Benson

Charles A. Benson, age 80, of Bay Port, passed away in his home on February 21, 2020.

Charles was born November 27, 1939, in Brotherton, Tennessee to W.J. and Allie (Swallows) Benson. He married Janice Boik on December 16, 1961, in Detroit. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2017. He joined the United States Army from 1961-1963 as a Missile Control Operator in Germany. Charles loved being outdoors hunting and fishing; tinkering in his shed, was a great self-taught mechanic, enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and deeply loved his wife.

Charles is survived by 2 children: Carolyn (Steven) Repkie and Charles (Denise Bentley) Benson; son-in-law, Paul Shankin, Sr.; siblings: Bill (Sandy) Benson, Geneva Sisk and Virginia Sherry; sister-in-law: Betty Benson; grandchildren: Paul Shankin, Jr. Allan Shankin, Christopher (Courtney) Harper, Brandon (Madison Rieboldt) Harper, Austin (Maddie Adam) Harper, Danielle Harper, Renee Repkie, Joshua Repkie, Jenna Edwards and Macey Edwards; 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Sherry Shankin; and siblings: Howard, Harold and Carl Benson.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
