Charles "Charlie" Butcher

Charles Butcher of Caro, age 71, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Covenant Health Care - Cooper in Saginaw. Charlie was born October 1, 1945 in Caro, the son of the late Burdette and Ruth (Coler) Butcher. He was a 1963 graduate of Fairgrove High School, and was united in marriage with the former Mary LaPratt on August 15, 1964 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro. Charlie was a self-employed building contractor for forty years and the owner of Charles Butcher & Son Builders. He was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church and Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F&AM. Charlie enjoyed deer hunting, farming, especially driving beet trucks, going for rides in the countryside exploring with friends, and giving his grandchildren each their own special attention. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting down in his easy chair with a hot cup of coffee and reading a book on history. If anyone needed a helping hand, Charlie was always available to help. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Mary Butcher of Caro; one daughter, Kimberly Butcher of Fairgrove and her fianc, Joseph Tacey; four grandchildren, Brian Hiser II, Megan Hiser, Hunter and Benjamin Butcher; one sister, Cristie Rahn and her husband, Patrick, of Caro. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by one son, Jonathan; and one sister, Janet Allen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Tony Tomasino officiating. Burial will follow at the Almer Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. There will be a Masonic Memorial Service Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F&AM.
