Charles Lewis Esch

Charles L. Esch, 71, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at home.

Chuck was born June 1, 1952 in Pigeon to Clayton and Freda (Kivel) Esch.  He graduated from Laker High School in 1970.  He married Cathy Stahl on December 13, 1969 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne.

Chuck worked sales for most of his career, with WLEW and Made-Rite Potato Chips.  He retired as a truck driver for FedEx.  He was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Elkton Lions, Elkton Jaycees, firefighter for Oliver Twp, and the Elkton Chamber of Commerce.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and telling a good joke.

Chuck is survived by his wife Cathy; father Clayton of Pigeon; children Gina (Mike) Heilig of Elkton, Holly (Marc) Smith of Canton, Julie (Brandon) Sutkowi of Linwood, and Erik (Genesis) of Texas City, Texas; grandchildren Nathan (Haley), Ryan (Ashley), Chaston, Hannah, Dominick, Chloe, Gavin, and Logan; great-grandchildren Troy, Hattie, Charlotte, Mason, and Brody; and brothers Denny (Dee) and Bill.  He was preceded in death by his mother Freda.

A funeral service will be 11:00am Saturday, October 14th at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne with Pastor Steve Neuman officiating.  Visitation will be 2-8 Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel.
