Charles Pistro, Jr. of Caro, age 73, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at his home, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Charlie was born August 26, 1942 in Detroit, the son of Elizabeth (Nemeth) Pistro and the late Charles Pistro, Sr. Charlie was a 1960 graduate of Owendale-Gagetown High School and enlisted in the Navy immediately following graduation, serving from 1960 until 1963 on the USS Cony Destroyer. He was united in marriage with the former Sarah Lyle on July 12, 1974 in Caro, and she survives him. Charlie's career began with General Motors in the purchasing department for nine years and was co-owner of the former Mr. P's Party Store in Caro. He then worked construction with Spence Brothers Construction in Saginaw before beginning a twenty year career with the Department of Corrections as a corrections officer at Camp Tuscola in Caro, retiring in 2005. Charlie was a member of St. Christopher Parish, the Knights of Columbus Caro Council #3224 as a Past Grand Knight and District Deputy, and the Vassar Eagles. He also served as a Caro Baseball Federation Coach and was instrumental in the organization's creation. His life revolved around his family and he was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren. Spare time was often spent golfing and fishing. Charlie is survived by his wife, Sarah Pistro of Caro; two sons, Charles Robert Pistro III and his fianc, Kimberly Morgan, of Freeland, Robert & Laura Pistro of New Albany, Ohio; three grandchildren, Caitlinn, Garrett and Blake; his mother, Elizabeth Pistro of Caro; two siblings, Patricia Ann & Robert Forge of Walled Lake, James Michael Pistro of Caro; and nieces, Robbin Marsico of Germantown, Tennessee, Tina Graves of Caro, Christine Corcoran of Chicago, Illinois; a great-niece and great-nephew, Cara and Robert Marsico of Germantown, Tennessee. In addition to his father, Charlie was preceded in death by a nephew, Mark Marsico. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart site. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Caro with military honors afforded by the Caro American Legion Post #7 and the U.S. Navy. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. A Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.
