Charles E. Thick, age 81 years, went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2009 from the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. He was born on December 21, 1927 in Flint to the late Charles Edward and Mary Amelia Caroline (Thompson) Thick. Charles Thick and the former Nellie Heider were married on August 23, 1947. She preceded him in death on May 8, 1984. He then married the former Onalee (Humes) Smith on October 4, 1992 in Caro. Mr. Thick had served in the National Guard for three years and had retired as an equipment operator from the City of Flint. He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Onalee; his children, Clarence Ervin (Wendy) Thick of Birch Run, Violet Mae (John) Lam of Pontiac, Patricia Ann (Jerry) Moe of Twin Lake, Larry Edward (Sherry) Thick of Caro and Lyle Earl (Cheryl) Thick of Kingston; his step-children, Leona (Paul) Hewitt of Lakewood, Colorado, Leland (Jennifer) Smith of Caro, Roger (Jane) Smith of Lansing and James Smith and Mal McFarland of Cass City; 29 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose M. Wersel of Flint; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by one stepson, Michael Smith; one sister and three brothers-in-law, Maude and Bud Newell, Albert Wersel and Robert Hallenbeck. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday, July 10, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held prior to burial at Flint Memorial Park in Mt. Morris on Monday July 13, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. with Minister Brad Gniewek officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
