Charles George Vaughan, age 85, of Caro, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Caro Community Hospital. He was born on March 9, 1926 in Caro to the late Arthur and Flossie (Brock) Vaughan. Chuck went to country school, and as a teenager, he went to work at the W. N. Clark Co. At the age of 17 years, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Charles Vaughan married the former Dorcas Dorman on July 6, 1947. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage when Dorcas preceded him in death on December 1, 2009. When he turned 21 years old, he went into business with his uncle, Ted Vaughan, in the sand and gravel business. From that time on, he and his wife were involved in a variety of business ventures in both Michigan and Florida, many of which not only involved the sand and gravel business but also camp grounds, motels, subdivisions, game ranches, and a restaurant. Chuck was a member of Theron W. Atwood, Sr. American Legion Post #7 and the First Baptist Church of Caro. He is survived by one son, Kim (Linda Ziemba) Vaughan; a daughter-in-law, Angela (Lewis) Vaughan; six grandchildren, Patrick Vaughan of Traverse City, Steven (Richelle) Vaughan of Standish, April (Nathan) Powell of Grand Rapids, K.C. Vaughan of Caro, Krystal (Andrew) Cole of Saginaw, and Joe Kazmouz of Vassar; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Esther Vaughan; two brothers-in-law, Ray (Barbara) Dorman of Umatilla, Florida, and Bill Dorman of Tavares, Florida; Donna Whatley of Tavares, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Vaughan; two brothers, Leland (Marge) Vaughan and Carl Vaughan; and one sister, Arlene (George) Butcher. The funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Caro on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ronald Wigand officiating. Burial will be at Almer Township Cemetery with military honors afforded by Theron W. Atwood, Sr. American Legion Post #7 and the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Caro.
