Charles "Charlie" Young

December 4, 1922 — December 10, 2002

Charles H. Young, age 80, of Elkton, died Tuesday morning, December 10, at his home following a long illness.
He was born December 4, 1922 in Naperville, IL to the late Edward and Nora (Lump) Young. Charles traveled to the Elkton area at the age of five with his parents. His father was a minister who was transferred to the area.
On April 7, 1951, he was united in marriage to Grace S. Ellis at the Gagetown Church of the Nazarene. He was employed at Active at that time and lived in a small house near his parents. In 1956, they moved to the farm where they now live. He continued at Active for 7 more years and farmed at the same time. Charlie retired from farming in 1986.
He was a former member of the Elkton Evangelical United Brethren Church. During his retirement years he could be found fishing on the bay, in a boat in the summer and on the ice in the winter. It was easy to tell that he still enjoyed working in the soil by the oversized garden he planted each year.
Surviving are his wife, Grace; his children, Linda Wetter of Yale, Sally (Brian) Sweeney of Ubly, Leonard Young of Flint, Edward Young, Elaine (Don) Long, Robert Young and Ronald Young all of Bad Axe. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, Janice, Paula, Roger, Sarah, Eddie, Imagene, Leonard, Jason, Sylinda, Steven, Cari, Robbie and Matthew; two great granddaughters, McKayla and Isabella and his brother, Milton (Marge) Young.
Preceding him in death were his son-in-law, Harry Wetter, two brothers, Harold and Don Young and his sister, Ruth Morgan.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, December 12, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Rev. Jerry Sutton, pastor of the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Memorial may be given to American Cancer Society.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 PM Wednesday and after 10 AM Thursday.
