Chet Stone, Jr.

Chet Stone, Jr. of Fairgrove, age 84, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at his residence in Fairgrove. Chet was born August 30, 1934 in Caro, the son of the late Chester and Winifred (Schott) Stone. He was united in marriage with the former Janice Bauman on October 24, 1953 at the Gilford United Methodist Church in Gilford, and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2015. Chet was employed as a forklift operator for thirty-seven and a half years at Saginaw Steering Gear, retiring in 1993. Chet and Janice were members of the United Methodist Church for more than fifty years. Chet and Janice loved to travel together and had visited Hawaii, Africa, Europe, and Greece, besides many camping trips during their sixty-two years together. Chet loved Detroit sports, U of M sports, gardening, and the thirty plus years he spent coaching Reese Little League Baseball. He is survived by four children and their spouses, Rick & Susan Stone of Gladwin, Pam & Joel Montei of Kingston, Greg & Elizabeth Stone of Saginaw, Karen & Denny Roehm of Merrill; eight grandchildren, two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; two sisters, Audrey Wilson of Vassar and Jeanette Curtis of Oregon. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kaylee and a sister Mabel Hicks. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Fairgrove United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. William P. Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at the Gilford Township Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Watrousville United Methodist Church Building Fund, in memory of Chet, or the Family Discretionary Fund c/o Rick Stone, 205 W.
