Clara Ackerman

Clara Ackerman of Caro, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro. Clara was born October 25, 1937 in Eagle Pass, Texas, the daughter of the late Alijandro and Maria (Lombraña) Alegria. On September 19, 1959, she married Melvin N. Ackerman. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2002. She was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Parish in Caro and the Scarlet Sisters of the Caro Red Hat Society. Clara enjoyed square dancing and western dancing, working in her flower garden, bird watching, sewing, painting, and traveling, and attending Red Hat events with her Scarlet Sisters. Above all, Clara loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her daughter, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren.

Clara leaves to cherish her memory one daughter and her husband, Valerie and Bradley Hartel of Caro; grandchildren, Kayla Jamieson of Caro and Allison (Pedro) Diaz Mora of Grand Rapids; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Owen, and Brynn Merchant; siblings, Frank (Becky) Alegria, Arthur (Linda) Alegria, John (Crissy) Alegria, Blanche Arellano, Oriole Alegria, Helen (Andy) Davila, Rose (Ernie) Edwards, Linda (Bill) Gainforth, and Jane Alegria; sister-in-law, Carol Ellicott; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Clara was preceded in death by her son, Scott Ackerman; brother, Alex Alegria, Jr; nieces, Angela and Linda Davila; nephew, Walter Chmura; brothers-in-law, Ronald Ackerman and Dean Ellicott; and sister-in-law, Mary Ackerman.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday August 19, 2024 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Caro with Rev. Isaac Madanu officiating. Burial will follow later that day at Holy Family Cemetery in Unionville. Clara’s family will be present to receive friends at St. Christopher Parish on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Christopher Parish or Heritage Hill Assisted Living.
