Clara Ernestina Hornbacher, age 95, of Sebewaing, went to see her Lord and Savior, Thursday, May 8, 2014, in the comfort of her own home.
Clara was born February 16, 1919 in Brookfield Twp., MI to the late Christian and Ernestine (Kurzer) Roemer. She was baptized at the Evangelical United Brethern Church in Sebewaing on April 20, 1919 by Pastor Kaatz (Methodist Church, Sebewaing). She attended St. John's Lutheran School in Kilmanagh, 1st through 8th grade. Clara was confirmed by Pastor Stoskopf on March 20, 1932. She graduated from Sebewaing High School in June of 1938.
Clara married Claude "Sandy" Hornbacher June 22, 1941 at her parents' home by Pastor Stoskoff (because St. John's Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh burned down in April of 1941. They were married 72 years. Clara was a homemaker and later a substitute rural mail carrier for many years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and making quilts for her family.
Clara is survived her children: Royce (Sheila) Hornbacher, Rhoda (Wayne) Bolzman, Dave Hornbacher, Rudy (Tona) Hornbacher, Ruby (Paul) Martinez and Jan Hornbacher; grandchildren: Eric (Kim) Hornbacher, Joshua (Barbette) Hornbacher, Denise (Tom) Bambach, Chris (Anna) Bolzman, Matthew (Gina) Bolzman, Michael (Michelle) Bolzman, Angela (Mike) Mandich, Joel (Spark) Bolzman, Dave (Bethany) Hornbacher, Neil (Laura) (Hornbacher) Tracy (Joseph) Beindit, Gregory Hornbacher, Nathan (Kim) Hornbacher, Justin Hornbacher, Krista Hornbacher, Heather Hornbacher, Jenny Martinez, Chad Hornbacher, Rachel Hornbacher, Ryan Hornbacher and Sarah Hornbacher; great grandchildren: Lindsay Hornbacher, Christian Hornbacher, Jordan Hornbacher, Zachary Bambach, Kaylee Bambach, Kelsey Bolzman, Luke Bolzman, Lyndsey Bolzman, Brandon Bolzman, Brianna Bolzman, Lauren Mandich, Michael Mandich, Madison Mandich, Layla Bolzman, Grady Bolzman, Kady Hornbacher, Dave Hornbacher, Jr., Maxwell Hornbacher, Jacob Beindit, Tyler Beindit, Brayden Hornbacher, Korbin Hornbacher, Zyon Hornbacher, Andrew Hornbacher and Alexa Houthoofd.
Preceded in death by her husband, Claude "Sandy"; son, Bruce; infant great grandson, Aaron; great-grandson, Logan; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Thelma Roemer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and John Dronsella and Florence and Paul Volz.
Visitation is Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 2-8 PM.
The funeral service is Monday, May 12, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Church-Kilmanagh. Visitation will begin at the church at 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM.
Burial will take place privately at Silverlawn Cemetery in Sebewaing.
