Clifford B. Collier of Caro, age 83, passed away at his residence with his loving family at his side on Saturday, June 29, 2013. Cliff was born May 29, 1930 in Howe, Indiana, the son of the late Ray and Alta (Weible) Collier. As an infant he moved with his family to Unionville where he attended school. On January 20, 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Korean War. Upon his return, he went to work at the Ford dealership in Unionville where he met his wife to be. On August 4, 1952 he was united in marriage with the former Lila Hess, who preceded him in death March 25, 2012. After working at the Ford garage as a mechanic, he went to work at Saginaw Grey Iron Foundry. His hobbies included gardening, yard work, ice fishing and being with his family. Clifford was an avid baseball fan and in his younger years was a little league coach. He was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church. Surviving are two children, Susan Collier of Saginaw, Douglas & Terri Collier of Akron; three grandchildren, Thomas Collier of Akron, Shannon & Tony LaDrig of Saginaw, Kelli Jo & Nick Cragg of Linden; five great grandchildren, Taylor and Andrew Collier, Kayden and Nolan Cragg, Lila Rae LaDrig; one brother Alfred & Barbara Collier of Clyde Ohio; one sister Pete Ann Smith of Charlotte; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Kitzman of Essexville and Carole & Wayne Lassiter of Caro, a cousin and best friend, Bud Dietrich of Rome City, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife of fifty-nine years, he was preceded by one brother August, a sister Alice Magiera, and two infant sisters, Eleanor and Mildred Collier. The family would like to thank his Caro Dialysis "girls." Dad loved you all very much. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. Burial will follow in the Almer Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to The Caro United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
