Clifford Joseph Hoppe

Clifford Joseph Hoppe, age 82, of Sebewaing, passed away at the DMC Harper University Hospital in Detroit after a brief illness.

Cliff was born on November 20, 1938, in Bay City, Michigan to Harold and Gertrude (Kramer) Hoppe. As a child he attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Unionville, and then went on to graduate from Unionville High School in 1956. In 1958 he was inducted into the United States Army and spent most of his two years of service in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1960. During his deployment he was awarded several commendations including the Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Badge and Marksman Badge. He was very proud to have served for his country and one of his favorite stories to share was the fact that he served with Elvis Presley during his time overseas. Shortly after he returned home he began dating his future wife, Jackie, and remained by her side for the next 29 years. He married Jacqueline P. Wiech on September 16, 1967 in Sebewaing at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

When Cliff was around 14 years old he began to tag along with his dad who was a carpenter by trade and it began his lifelong love of woodworking and carpentry.  He built many houses in the area and continued to do small projects through this past summer. His knowledge of woodworking and his ability to share his gifts with his grandchildren will definitely be missed. Cliff also enjoyed hunting (sleeping in the woods), coin collecting, gun collecting, and a good home cooked meal. He could always be found attending one of his grandchildren's many sporting, school and church events, and he loved cracking a good joke, his sense of humor was unmatched.

Cliff is survived by his two children: Jeffrey (Michelle) Hoppe of Cass City and Sherri (Mike) Holland of Akron; his dear friend, Marie Kindler; grandchildren: Shane, Owen, Kian, Elyse and Elaine Hoppe, Draper and Carson Holland; siblings: Lorna (Mike) McCormick, Delores (Ken) Gangler, Carol (Bruce) Schneider and Michael (Peggy) Hoppe; brother-in-law, Wayne McKay; and many nieces and nephews.

Cliff is preceded in death by his wife, Jackie; his stillborn brother, Clemens Hoppe; and his sister, Jeanette McKay.
