Connie A. Hanes of Caro, age 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community, surrounded by the love of her family. Connie was born July 19, 1936 in Columbiaville, the daughter of the late Charles & Alice (Mulroy) Bowles. She was a 1954 graduate of Caro High School and later attended Northeastern School of Commerce in Bay City. On May 2, 1955, she was united in marriage with Lee Hanes at St. Michael Catholic Church in Wilmot, and he survives. Connie and Lee owned several area businesses that included Bargain Center Furniture and U-Foun-Dit, both of Caro. She was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Caro and participated in its bible studies. Connie's life revolved around her family and she cared deeply for others. She loved writing cards and notes to family and friends, fishing for perch, gardening, knitting and embroidery. Connie's family is left to marvel that she never lost her sense of humor or her admiration for Lee, her love of over sixty years. Connie is survived by three children and their spouses, Bob & SueAnn Hanes of Cass City, Chris & Roy Greenwood of Allendale, Julie & David Blakely of Holland; five grandchildren and their spouses, Alison & Kevin Klein of Freeland, Kyle & Ashley Greenwood of Allendale, Peyton Blakely and his fianc, Christina McKerchie, of Sault Sainte Marie, Rebekah & Gerald TenBrink of Lake Leelanau, Hannah Blakely of Newaygo; five great-grandchildren, Braden, Janae, Deacon, Ava and Zev Alan; two sisters, Charlene Baranski and Carol Metz, both of Caro; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Richard Bowles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Sacred Heart site with Rev. John Ladd officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Forget-Me-Nots of the Tuscola County Medical Care Community.
