Consuelo Nickerson

Consuelo Nickerson of Sebewaing, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon, following a lingering illness. She was born January 25, 1935 in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of the late Jose and Josephina (Lazaro) Garcia. Consuelo was born and raised Catholic, and joined the convent in San Antonio at age 15, serving as a nun for fifteen years. She came to Michigan in 1966, and was employed as a Social Worker with the Department of Human Services in Bay County for over twenty-five years, retiring in 2010. She also worked as a food vendor and loved cooking. In 1990 she became a member of Living Waters Chapel in Caro. Consuelo's family and grandchildren were her hobby and passion. She was faithful in her service to God and enjoyed reading the Bible and participating in religious telethons. Consuelo is survived by her two children, James Garcia of Cass City, and Julie Thomas and her husband, Paul, of Sebewaing; twelve grandchildren, Brandon (Laura), Alisha, Chyanne, Janay, Gabby, Katie, Reigen, Jaron, Josefina, Jose, Jayden, Cordellia; three great-grandchildren, Jaelynn, Nevaeh, Annaleigh, and one more on the way; one sister, Elena Gomez of Caro; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Dallas Thomas; and six siblings, Carlos Garcia, Stella Sanchez, Ramona Pachecano, Juan Garcia, Lupe Sanchez, and Louis Garcia. In keeping with Consuelo's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Living Waters Chapel in Caro with Rev. James Solomon officiating.
