Curtis was born March 19, 1968 in Detroit, and passed away quietly on April 10, 2011, at age 43, in the home of his beloved grandparents who raised him, Rose and John Best. Curtis was a brilliant young man who lived life on his own terms. He enjoyed growing up in Detroit and spoke fondly of his friends and neighbors. He was a kind and thoughtful human being who understood life and its challenges. Curtis was a frugal spender and knew what it meant to make and keep a dollar. He was interested in science and engineering, and at the tender age of 5, created a working lamp. Curtis won a prize at his high school science fair for building and demonstrating the capabilities of a large scale Tesla Coil. His interest in science and engineering continued all his life. Although his knowledge was gained through self study, he had a natural affinity and understanding of the sciences and their applications. Curtis is survived by one daughter, Candace Middleton; his father, Richard Beal; his mother, Brenda Leveille; grandparents, Rose and John Best; and sisters, Shaun and Ashley Leveille.
