D. Joanne Nevin

February 20, 1935 — February 9, 2013

D. Joanne (Stacy) Nevin, 77, of Caseville, passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side on Saturday, February 9, 2013.

Joanne was born February 20, 1935 in Essex, Missouri to the late Ralph and Glennie (Nixon) Stacy. She grew up in Michigan and at a young age she put on a pair of roller skates and “fell in love” with skating. Joanne became a competition skater and in 1950 took gold. She became a professional skater and gave skating lessons at a rink in Mt. Clemens, as well as running skating programs in three area schools. She loved sharing her love of skating with her children, nieces, nephews and all the people she taught. When they learned something new she was as excited as they were.

Joanne married Kenneth Nevin on February 21, 1959 in Mt. Clemens. In 1972 the family moved to Caseville and founded Caseville Roller Skating Arena which they owned and operated until 2002. In retirement they spent time in Florida and traveling the US. Joanne loved retirement but missed skating and all the people that skated. She often said she left her heart at the roller rink. Joanne was a wonderful seamstress. She loved to design and sew costumes, clothing, draperies and upholster furniture.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth; children Richard Couto of Bay City, Brenda (the late Mike) Woodruff of New Haven, Kimberly (Jeff) Meyer of Belleville, Keith Nevin of Clawson, Kristin (Jon) Case of Alma, and Kari Jo (Norman) Brook of Royal Oak; son-in-law Cyril Sieveke of Bay City; 11 grandchildren; brother Bill Stacy and sister Yvonne (Mike) Orlando, both of Mt. Clemens.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Lynnette Sieveke.

A memorial service will be at 12:00 Noon Monday, February 18th at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with Rev. Karen Bouverette officiating, followed by a luncheon at the Caseville Eagles Club. Friends may gather at the funeral home beginning at 10AM Monday. Urn interment will be in Caseville Twp Cemetery.

Joanne was a people person and always interested in others’ lives. She was gracious and graceful inside and out. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit, 3517 Rochester Road, Royal Oak, MI 48073 www.gildasclubdetroit.org
