Dale Emerson Atkinson

Dale Emerson Atkinson, 85, of Elkton, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022 at McLaren Thumb Region Hospital in Bad Axe.

Dale was born August 17, 1936 in Elkland Twp to the late Frank and Hazel (Summers) Atkinson. He served in the US Army in France from 1962 to 1964.

Dale drove truck before working at Huron Castings until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Community Wesleyan Church. He loved training and showing labrador dogs with Echelon Kennels. Dale was a talented woodworker, making wooden villages and vehicles. He enjoyed yard work, hunting and riding motorcycle up until his 80th birthday.

Dale is survived by his daughter Tonya (Bill) Smith of Kinde; grandchildren Connor and Katelyn Smith; brother Jerry of Elkton; life partner of 23 years Cheryl “Tipper” Atkinson of Elkton; Cheryl’s sons Michael (Zoe) Markham and Aaron (Ashley) Markham; and Cheryl’s grandchildren McKenzie, and Bryanna and Oliver; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Alma and nephew Darrin.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, June 14th at the Community Wesleyan Church in Elkton with Rev. William O’Nan officiating. Burial will be in Grant Twp Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Pigeon.
