Dale Edward Ernst

Dale Edward Ernst of Mayville, age 57, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at McLaren - Bay Region in Bay City, following a courageous battle with cancer. Dale was born April 24, 1962 in Downey, California, the son of Monica Marie (Miller) Ernst and the late Frank LeRoy Ernst. He graduated from Corning High School in Corning, California with the class of 1981 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly after. While stationed in the Philippines, he met a fellow sailor, Mike Umphrey, that encouraged him to begin corresponding with his sister, Cindy. Although Dale had never met his friend's sister, he wrote faithfully, and a friendship ensued. Upon his honorable discharge in March of 1986, he met Cindy Umphrey in person for the first time, and was married only three months later on June 7, 1986. Dale worked in small engine repair as a mechanic for Hank's Repair in Cass City for many years before taking a position with Walmart Tire and Lube, leaving a few weeks ago due to health concerns. He was a member of Wahjamega Country Church and Calvary Chapel Fellowship in Vassar. He was known to wear a Hawaiian shirt to almost any occasion and could fix anything that he touched. Dale also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, building models, and flying his drone indoors to terrorize his dog, Boots. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cindy Ernst of Mayville; three children and their spouses, Joseph E. & Corie Ernst of Modesto, California, Alisha Marie Ann & Michael Slabbinck of Chesterfield, Tyler James Kencaid Ernst of Detroit and Mayville; two grandchildren, Shelbie Ernst and Ethan Ernst; his mother, Monica Ernst; siblings, Lori Ernst of California, Randy Ernst and his wife, Mary, of California; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Pastors Tony Jacobs and William Hendricks officiating. Burial with Military Honors under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the Caro American Legion Post #7 will follow at North Grove Cemetery in Mayville. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
