Dale E. Havrilla, 87, of Caseville, died peacefully May 8, 2014 at his home while under hospice care.
Dale was born July 10, 1926 in Detroit to the late Frederick and Frances (Walden) Havrilla. He graduated from Redford High School in 1944. He served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Vulcan. On July 21, 1946 he married the love of his life Beatrice W. Schultz in Detroit. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2005.
In 1981 he retired from the GM Tech Center in Warren where he worked as a supervisor in paint research. Following retirement he moved to his home in Caseville on the Lake. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and a former member of the UAW Skilled Trades. He was a talented painter whose work was featured on many commercial buildings and on the unlimited hydroplane boats that are raced in the Detroit River.
He is survived by his children David (Karen) of Caseville, James (Carol) of Lewiston, Nancy Hellowell of Cadillac, Thomas (Tommie) of Louisiana and Gary of Maryland; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Mary Havrilla of Sterling Heights and sister-in-law Marion Havrilla of Highland Park. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Harley, sister Janice and brothers Larry and Jack.
Funeral services are 12:00 Noon Monday, May 12th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Caseville with Rev. Steven Stolarczyk officiating. Burial will be in Caseville Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10am Monday until the time of the service at church.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Save Our Shoreline.
