Dale D. Reilly, age 75, of Elkton died Wednesday evening, September 10, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw.
He was born March 20, 1933 at the home of his parents, the late Andy and Jenny (Kennedy) Reilly at Eagle Bay, Hume Twp.
After graduating from Port Austin High School, he went to the G M Tech Center and became a Tool & Die Machinist. Dale joined the US Air Force and served as a Crew Chief during the Korean War.
On September 9, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carol Schultz at St. Raymond's Catholic Church in Detroit. They made their home in Livonia for 10 years. He was employed at Pioneer Engineering in Warren a number of years and then at Massey-Ferguson for 10 years retiring in 1982.
In 1972, they bought a farm in Oliver Twp. and moved their family there while he commuted back and forth to work. Then in 1984 they bought the Midway Party Store at Oak Beach and operated it until 1997, moving back to the farm.
Dale was an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8042 and served in several offices and was a member of the Port Austin American Legion, Port Austin. He enjoyed restoring old tractors and woodworking. He loved to share stories with family and friends of the past and his youth growing up near Grindstone.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Carol; four children, Patrick (Joyce) Reilly of Kinde, Mark Reilly of Elkton, Colleen (James) Toner of Kinde and Matthew (Laura) Reilly of Elkton; eight grand children, Kelly, Sarah, Megan, Daniel, Pamela, Raymond, Tami and Scott; four great grandchildren, Connor, Jacob, Jordon and Emma; his brother, Bernard Reilly of Livonia; his sister, Marylou Munger of St. Clair Shores and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a brother-in-law, George Munger and a sister-in-law, Doris Reilly.
A funeral mass will be conducted 10:30 AM Saturday, September 13, at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Port Austin with military honors by the Port Austin America Legion in the church cemetery. Friends may call 2 to 9 PM Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton and at the church after 9:30 Saturday morning. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Assn
