Dale Sherman

Dale Sherman of Caro, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Dale was born September 3, 1933 on the family farm in Almer Township, the son of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Voss) Sherman. He was a graduate of Akron High School, and upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return, he took advantage of his GI Bill and obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Central Michigan University. Dale was united in marriage with the former Helen Brinkman on June 13, 1959, and she preceded him in death on July 30, 1994. Shortly after completing his college education, he taught in the Cass City and Caro school districts; coaching JV football in Cass City, and golf in Caro. In 1969, he became a State Farm insurance agent, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Jaycees, Caro Exchange Club, Trout Unlimited, and the United States Golf Association. Dale was a member of the Caro Golf Club for fifty-nine years. He was the teaching pro at the golf course from 1963 to 1969, multiple time club champion, founding member of the Caro Golf Society, and host of the Sherman Invitational for twenty-four years. He enjoyed fly fishing, attended horse races at Keeneland, Kentucky, and thoroughly enjoyed the family deer camp since 1946. Dale is survived by three sons, Kreg & Deborah Sherman of Caro, Kirk Sherman of Grand Blanc, and Kurt Sherman of Caro; five grandchildren, Ryan & Dakotah Sherman, Kreg Sherman II, Kelsey, Kaitlin, and Kohlton Sherman; five great-grandchildren, Raeleigh, Paetan, Kaelinn, Mykel and Luchian Sherman; two brothers, Jerry & Virginia Sherman of Saline, Max & Jeanette Sherman of Lapeer; several nieces and nephews; "special daughter," Cris Hercliff of Caro; and his special friend, Jan Schmunk. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery with military honors afforded by the Caro American Legion Post #7 and the U.S. Army. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Tuscola County Relay for Life.
