Dale T. Stormzand, age 77, of Caseville, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw after a long battle with cancer.
Dale was born April 26, 1931 in Detroit to the late Harold and Naomi (Fritz) Stormzand. He grew up in Roseville and graduated from Cass Tech High School in Detroit. He received a degree in electrical engineering from Tri-State University. Dale worked at various electrical engineering firms throughout the United States, including Square D and Martin-Marietta before returning to Michigan in 1968. In 1981 he founded Blue Jay Rubber in Sterling Heights.
On November 4, 1972 Dale married Laurie Ratkowiak in Shelby Township. They moved to Caseville permanently in 1990. Dale enjoyed being outdoors at his home on Saginaw Bay, either working in the yard or fishing. He enjoyed cooking and had a passion for innovative gadgets. Dale was always available to help his neighbors with their projects.
He is survived by his wife Laurie; children Eric (Leslie) of Manitou Beach, Michigan, Wendy (David) Pocknall of Katy, Texas and Kevin (Cathy) of Caseville; grandchildren Nicholas, Matthew, Brandon, K.C., Dustin and Steven; great-grandchildren Vinnie, Andrew, Dominic, and Jordan; brother David (Merita) of Ocala, Florida and sister Janet Phillips of Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon Saturday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with Rev. Karen Bouverette officiating. Burial will be in Caseville Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM Friday and from 10:00 AM Saturday until the time of the service.
Memorials may be made to the Scheurer Hospital Auxiliary or American Cancer Society.
