Daniel James Barriger

Daniel James Barriger of Unionville, age 46, passed away from complications of a stroke on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw. Dan was born June 5, 1972 in Port Huron and became the adopted son of Russell & Shirley (Wagner) Barriger on August 16, 1972. He moved as an infant to Unionville with the Barriger family and would spend the remainder of his life in this area, graduating with the class of 1990 from the Deford Christian Academy. Dan was united in marriage with the former Nancy Salla on September 10, 1994 in Caro. He was currently employed with Ewald Organic Farms in Unionville and Caro Snow Works as a service technician. Dan was also one of the original employees of Poet Biorefining in Caro and previously worked at Ferrellgas in Caro. He was a lifelong member of the Ellington Church of the Nazarene where he served as a board member and sound technician. Dan will be remembered as a man that could fix virtually anything and enjoyed spending time in the shop fabricating metal. He also had an extensive collection of model trucks, trains and farm equipment. He loved spending time with family, especially his daughter, Rebekah. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Barriger of Unionville; daughter, Rebekah Barriger of Unionville; parents, Russell & Shirley Barriger of Unionville; siblings and their spouses, Grace & Mark Splan of Northville, Samuel & Tonia Barriger of Caro, Adam & Melissa Barriger of Washington, Illinois, Faith Barriger of Unionville; sister- and brother-in-law, Debra & Christopher Valentine of North Carolina; mother-in-law, Darla Salla of Gladwin; nieces and nephews, Tyler, Emily and Samantha Barriger, Sean, David, and Noah Splan, Rachel and Megan Barriger, Mike and Stephen Valentine, Kelli and Sarah Fitzpatrick; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents; sister-in-law, Dianne Fitzpatrick; and father-in-law, John A. Salla. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the Ellington Church of the Nazarene with Revs. David Boulton and Richard Barriger officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at the Ellington Township Cemetery in Caro.
