Daniel Alan Gettel entered into Eternal Life trusting in God’s Divine Mercy through Jesus Christ on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Heritage Hill Assisted Living. Dan was born on March 2, 1951, the son of the late Lydia (Witzke) and Vern Gettel in Pigeon. He received the waters of Holy Baptism in 1951 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville, Michigan. Dan graduated from Caro High School in 1969.
Dan was united in marriage to Mary Jeanne Pierson on October 20, 1979 in Caro. He is survived by her and their children, Sara Jeanne Gettel of Somerville, Massachusetts and John William Gettel of Detroit; brother, Dick (Deb) Gettel; sisters, Betty Hiner and June Patterson; sisters-in-law, Julie (Sal) Bordonaro, Betty Gettel, and Nancy (John) Zylema; nieces and nephews, Teri (Kip) Parsell, Gina Gettel, Lori Gettel-Calery, Lynn (Jamie) LeBlanc, Cari (John) Brawley, Jennifer (Desmond) Payne, Kristel (Dennis) Ziemba, Jamie Hiner, Holly (Brian) Vermaire, Teresa (Dave) Hammer, Lou (Heather) Bordonaro, and Clara (Alex) Zidarevich. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his two sisters, Gloria Jane Gettel and Doris Lynn Nordstrom; brother, Larry Dale Gettel; grandparents, Fred and Teofilge Henkel Witzke, and Albert John and Amanda Binder Gettel.
Dan enjoyed working in his garden and working with his honeybees. He enjoyed traveling and camping trips to different areas of the country with Mary, Sara, and John.
Dan worked at the Caro Center for over thirty-two years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro, where he was a member of the Board of Elders and a Reader. Dan helped with St. Paul’s participation in the Good Samaritan Food Pantry.
Dan looks for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive visitors on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Good Samaritan Food Pantry.

The family will be present to receive visitors on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his service.
