Daniel K Leitch, age 84 of Bay Port passed away Monday evening, January 23, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center from complications with his heart.
He was born February 16, 1932 in Chandler Twp at the home of his parents, the late Henry and Myrtie (Haley) Leitch. Dan grew up on a farm north of Elkton and graduated from Elkton High School in 1951.
On September 4, 1973, he was united in marriage to Patricia L Sander at the First United Methodist Church, Pigeon. Pat preceded him in death November 16, 2001.
Dan was employed with the Huron County Road Commission for over 30 years, retiring in 1994, prior to that he worked road construction and helped build many of Michigan’s highway
He was a very active member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Caseville. Dan was a builder/craftsman at heart. He built several new homes in the area along with many storage sheds and trailers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, eating pie and shopping at Menards. Dan was known around the area as the "fish scaler guy". He designed and built many fish scalers during his life and was the go to guy when you wanted something unique built.
Surviving are his children, Beth (Daniel) Walz of Sebewaing, Kathy (Dave) Ignash of Pigeon, Deborah (Dennis) Learman of Stockbridge, Kendra (Bill) Rathje of Elkton, Terry (Kathy) Carder of Pontaic, Ronna (John) Romano of Brunswick, ME Larry (LaDona) Carder of Fort Gratiot, Bob Carder of Bad Axe, Kelly (Cathy) Carder of Bakersfield, CA and Penny (Mike) Gogolin of Elkton; 31 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and his sister-in-law, Vernie Leitch of Walled Lake.
Preceding him in death was a son, Henry and siblings, Barbara Hayes, Angeline Gardner, Myrtle Gebauer, George Hayes, Eugene, Harry, William, Norman Oliver, Johnny and James Leitch.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, January 27, at Calvary Baptist Church, Caseville. Rev. Michael Goforth, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 8 PM Thursday and at the church after 12 noon Friday.
