Daniel William Smith, age 23 of Caseville, passed away April 21, 2013 at his home. He was born December 21, 1989 and was the son of Denson "Denny" and Leanne (Buschlen) Smith. Daniel loved driving anything: tractors, trucks, his car, pickup and motorcycle. He also loved snowmobiling and skating. He had a sweet-tooth and a smile to go with it.
Daniel was a member of Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, where he was an usher and reader. He was baptized and confirmed at Cross, and attended Cross Lutheran School through eighth grade. He was active in the Cross Church youth group, went on a Mission Trip to Chicago, and volunteered at Huron County Summer Speech Camps. He graduated from Lakers in 2008 where he had participated in FFA, soccer, and the school play, Grease, with his sister. He then attended Delta College for two years. He was also a member of the Huron County Hockey Association, where he played hockey the past three years.
Daniel worked with his dad, Denny, and grandfather, Vince, as well as Troy and Terry Smith and Ron Kuch on the family farm, snowplowing, and sandblasting businesses.
Daniel is survived by his parents, Denny and Leanne Smith of Caseville; brother, Aaron Smith, his fiancé Kim and son Mason of Littleton, Colorado; sister, Michelle Walsh, her husband Ben and Baby of Pigeon; grandparents, Vincent Smith of Caseville and Vivian Buschlen of Pigeon; aunts and uncles: Cindy and Mike Wagner; Patsy and Mike Walsh; Gwynne and J.B. Barry; Godfather Gregg Buschlen; Brad and Tricia Buschlen; and Godparents Robin and Ann Buschlen. He is also survived by cousins: Lisa, Denis, and Elodie Somar; Brian, Neisha, Andrew and Matthew Wagner; Jamie Walsh; Scott, Katie, Emalee, Alex, Brady and Landon Walsh; Russell Barry and fiancé Hannah; Joshua Barry; Ethan and Keaton Buschlen; Amanda and Rob Cronk; and Jenna Buschlen and fiancé Spencer; Shane, Brandi and Olivia Buschlen; special family, Wignall/Kish; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Clifford Buschlen and grandmother Joyce Smith.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Cross Lutheran Church, with Rev. Timothy Loehrke, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Cross Lutheran Church or School, HISD Summer Speech Camp, or the HISD Hearing Impaired Program.
