Darrell Byers, 83, of Port Austin, died Friday, March 23, 2012 at his home while under hospice care.
Darrell was born March 31, 1928 in Saginaw to the late Darrell and Eva (Ritter) Byers. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1946. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He married Diane L. Wuerker on October 2, 1952 at Salem Memorial Lutheran Church in Detroit.
After marrying the family settled in Roseville and raised their family while Darrell worked at Lochmoor Chrysler in Detroit as a service manager, retiring in 1985. The same year they moved to their cottage at Oak Beach and purchased the Oak Beach Pantry, which they ran until 2000. He was member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Port Austin American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Diane; daughters Ina (Duane) Fauser of North Carolina and Colleen Byers of Nevada; grandchidren Eva, Emma, Tyler, Emily and Liam; and great-grandsons Zachary and Dylan.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Burton and Veronica.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 28th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Stolarczyk. Burial with military honors will be in Port Austin Twp Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of the service at church on Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
