Dave Wendling

Dave H. Wendling, age 78, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 11, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer. Dave was born October 21, 1930 in Detroit, the son of the late Adam and Dorothy (Liess) Wendling. Dave spent most of his childhood in Saginaw, where he was an accomplished speed skater. He graduated from Sault Ste. Marie High School with the class of 1948. After spending four years in the Michigan National Guard, Dave was inducted into the Army, where he served in Korea. Following his discharge from the Army, he was united in marriage with the former Joanne Egyet on September 24, 1955 in Saginaw. Dave drove trucks in Saginaw for several years before coming to Caro when he purchased Thumb Fruit Company, a business he ran for the next sixteen years. He later founded Magic Kool Krete before joining the Moore Motors sales team for the last ten years. Dave was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, boating, bowling and golfing. He was also an avid Detroit Tigers, Lions, Pistons and Red Wings fan. He was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church, the United Commercial Truck Insurance Company for nearly fifty years and the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of over fifty-three years, Joanne Wendling of Caro; one daughter, one son and their spouses, Kathy & Rusty Kasperski of Brighton, Scott & Linda Wendling of Caro; four dearly loved grandchildren, Tiffani and Chelsea Kasperski, Adam and Nick Wendling; one brother-in-law, Jim Egyet and many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Joy Melampy. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by one brother, John Wendling.
