David John Abbe

David John Abbe of Gagetown, age 78, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, at his home following a long illness, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 10, 1948, in Pigeon, the son of the late John and Genevie (Severn) Abbe. Dave grew up in the Gagetown area and graduated from Owendale-Gagetown High School with the Class of 1966.

On July 27, 1967, Dave married the love of his life, the former Mary Ann Borushko. Together, they shared nearly sixty years of marriage, raised their family, and made many cherished memories along the way. Dave spent forty-three years working as a machine operator for General Motors before retiring. He also worked part-time at Elenbaum Farms, where he helped with the fall harvest.

Dave loved his Gagetown community and proudly served it for many years. He was mayor of Gagetown for over twenty years, served on the village council, and was also assistant fire chief. When Dave wasn’t working or serving his community, there was a good chance he could be found on the golf course. He lived for golf and had been a member of Sherwood on the Hill since 1979. Following his retirement, he took full advantage of the extra time and played almost every day.

Above everything else, Dave’s family was his greatest accomplishment, and they always came first. He enjoyed the simple things in life, whether it was having a cold Bud Light or spending Sundays reading the papers with Paul. Dave will be remembered for his steady nature, kindness, and the love he had for his family.

Dave leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Mary Ann; their two sons, Christopher John Abbe and Bryan David Abbe, both of Gagetown; sister, Denise (Tim) Lenhard; sisters-in-law, Bernice Abbe and Barb (Al); brothers-in-law, Pete (Sherry), Rick (Bonnie), Bob, and Bill (Mary); many nieces, nephews, friends, and golf buddies. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his infant sister, Janet, and brother, Dennis Abbe.

Dave’s Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at Sherwood on the Hill in Gagetown from Noon until 3:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the wishes of the family, c/o Mary Ann Abbe, 7356 W.
