David George Maxwell

June 15, 1924 — September 11, 2007

David George Maxwell, age 83, of Caseville, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe of natural causes.

He was born June 15, 1924 in Detroit to the late George and Viola (Denocour) Maxwell. He served in the US Coast Guard during World War II in the Pacific Theater. On June 7, 1947 he married Shirley Ann Howey of Detroit in Lincoln Park. Together they moved to Detroit where they raised their family.

After 36 years with Michigan Bell, David retired as a foreman in 1983. Having had a cottage in Caseville since 1966, they moved there permanently in 2003. For many years he wintered in Bradenton, Florida. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing , sailing, watching baseball, and spending time with his beloved dogs.

Surviving are his wife Shirley; children Mark of Clarkston, Dale (Kay) of Tennessee, Dean of Harrison Twp, Duane of Caseville, and Ann (Don) Van Overbeke of Marine City; 13 grandchilren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Don of Howell and sister Minnie Roth of South Lyon.

He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Haskin.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, Sept. 15th at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with Rev. Jan Dykshoorn officiating. Friends may begin gathering at 11:30 Saturday until the time of the service.
