David H. Nitz, of Sebewaing, age 72, passed away July 18, 2022, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Dave was born in Pigeon on May 3, 1950, to Harry and Wina (Schulz) Nitz. He was baptized May 28, 1950 at New Salem Lutheran Church and confirmed May 17, 1964 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Dave graduated from Sebewaing High School in 1968. He worked for the State Hospital in Caro for 35 years as a Resident Care Aid, retiring in 2012. Dave enjoyed target shooting, riding his "Fat Boy" Harley Davidson, watching U of M sports, Detroit Pistons, Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, gardening, playing with his pets, Ember and Joplin and eating at local restaurants. Dave was a very proud, patriotic American and flew his flag proudly. He was a member of the Sebewaing American Legion Post #293, a member of the Sebewaing Historical Society and Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Dave is survived by his wife, Theresa (Wildman); children: Kyle (Jolene) Nitz of Ubly and Kamryn (Nathan) Gruehn of Sebewaing; grandchildren: Keyan, Haden, Karsyn and Nolen Gruehn; brother, Ricky (Debbie) Schulz of Lakewood, Washington; sister-in-law, Shelly (Brian) Prich; mother-in-law: Elaine (late Jim) Wildman; and nieces and nephews: Michelle and Daniel Schulz and Levi Prich.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Nitz and Wina Schulz.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Visitation will be 10am until the time of service at 12 noon. Burial of his cremains will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Sebewaing.
Memorial donations may be given to Thumb Animal Shelter or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
