David Paul Szumlinski of Caseville, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 12, 2025. He was born July 1, 1941 in Detroit, the son of the late Joseph and Czeslava “Tessie” (Kurel) Szumlinski. Following school, Dave joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Vietnam war. In 1963 at a New Year’s Eve party, Dave happened to meet the former Margaret Marke. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on May 7, 1966 in Detroit.
Dave worked at Chrysler Sterling Stamping for over thirty years, retiring in 1997 as a machine repair journeyman. After retirement he moved with Margaret to Caseville where he became very active with the Caseville American Legion Post #543. Dave was the Legion’s Commander for over twenty-two years, a member of the Caseville Retirement Club and of the Eagles. In his free time,
He enjoyed working on small engines and tractors in his garage, hunting, and fishing. Dave was always up for a card game, especially poker, or for a ride on the motorcycle. He was always there for you and after he took some time to think over a problem you presented him with, he’d come back with the right answer or solution. Dave’s caring, kind, and loving ways will be missed.
Dave leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of nearly fifty-nine years, Margaret; their son & his wife, David Mark & Christina Lynn Szumlinski; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Szumlinski.
Dave’s funeral service will be on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 1:00pm at the Champagne Funeral Chapel. Caseville American Legion and active-duty Marine Corps will render military honors. The family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday from 10:00am until the time of his service.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Caseville American Legion, 4995 N Caseville Rd, Caseville, MI 48725.
