David R. "Dave" Vollmer, 85 of Pigeon, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Henry Ford Hospital, Macomb.
Born October 20, 1927 on the family farm in Owendale, he was the son of the late David and Mary (Wolfram) Vollmer and graduated from the Winsor School. On November 26, 1949 he was united in marriage to Audrey Strauch at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon.
Dave owned and operated Vollmer Ready Mix in Pigeon for 55 years and was known as a hard worker. He enjoyed traveling to Florida. He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, Audrey, he is survived by four children, Candace and her husband, Joseph Watrobka of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rebecca Scovill and her husband, Richard Foster of Haslett, Jenny Vollmer of Caseville, and Scott Vollmer and his wife, Charla of Lees Summit, Missouri; four grandchildren, Alex Lubeski, Cara Scovill, Gregory Scovill, and Noah Vollmer; a sister, Dorothy Gruehn of Sebewaing; many nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Wilmer Nimtz; and a sister-in-law, Diane Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers John, Art, and Frank; his sister, Helen Nimtz; half brothers, Ray, Carl, and Al; and half sisters, Mary Hinton and Margaret Schmidt.
The Funeral Mass will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon, with Fr. John Weis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
