Delmer McAlpine, age 77, of Elkton died Tuesday afternoon at Huron Medical Center, Bad Axe.
He was born October 20, 1935, in Caro to the late George and Iva (Kipfer) McAlpine and moved to Elkton with his family in his youth.
On August 4, 1962, he was united in marriage to Marjorie “Marty” Gaeth at the Elkton Methodist parsonage and lived and raised their family in Elkton.
After returning home from his service in the US Army for two years, Delmer began working at Active Industries in 1964, where he was employed for 47 years retiring August 3, 2001.
He was a long time member of the Elkton Lions Club. Delmer enjoyed hunting, bowling and playing pool. He had been going to the Owendale Speedway since it opened in 1964, first as a driver and pit crew and then as a spectator. He was also an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Marty; three children, Tawney McAlpine Kevin McAlpine and Melissa Randall all of Elkton; his grandchildren, Savanna McAlpine, Seth Randall and Brittanie Harbin; his brother, Dave (Hazel) McAlpine of Pigeon and sisters, Charlene (Jim) Trisch of Pickford, GeorgeAnn (Dave) Macdowell of Elkton, Sandy (Ron) Brill of Caro, Carol (Bill) Bodziak and Christina Klosowski of Elkton.
Preceding him in death was a son, Delmer Jr., brother, Delbert and two sisters, Joann Swiastyn and Judy McAlpine.
Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, February 1, at the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. Rev. William O’nan, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 PM Thursday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton.
